In the early 1990s Teddy Hall moved from financial services to winemaking and soon reached eminence, with an enviable reputation especially for chenin blanc (winning numerous important awards, including being 2001 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year). He left Rudera, the prestigious winery he had founded, and established this eponymous brand in 2006, making his wines in rented cellar space in Stellenbosch – an appropriate location for his premium labels, whose names are borrowed from interesting (somewhat disreputable) characters of the early days of the Cape. Teddy somehow also finds time to be winemaker for Taillard Family Wines.
